Tips from Fr. Mike for Celebrating the Mass in Your Home:

While we look forward to worshiping in church as Jesus intended, we should pray and participate in the Mass online as best as possible. Below you will find some helpful suggestions and prayers for spiritual communion. Let’s also pray that we can come together and celebrate the fullness of the Mass soon and pray for those who are struggling during this time.

1. Keep Sunday Special: Dress up, set the time when you will all gather. Discuss with the family that the attitude should be the same as if you were in the church praying.

2. Set up a special room where you will watch the Mass: Decorate the space with a cross, a Bible, a rosary, a candle, and/or other religious objects that will remind you of Jesus’ presence in your home. Involve the children with the decorating, carry a cross in, light candles, pass a basket, etc.

3. Say this or a similar Prayer of Spiritual Communion:
“My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Word of God and the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.”

4. Get rid of all distractions:
Turn off all phones, music, unnecessary noise. Put all distracting elements like toys, pets, electronics, etc. away from where you will be watching the Mass so you can better focus and concentrate. Watch the entire Mass from beginning to end.

5. Afterwards, say prayer together. The ancient prayer, the Anima Christi, is a good option:
“Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds hide me.
Permit me not to be separated from you.
From the wicked foe, defend me.
At the hour of my death, call me
and bid me come to you
That with your saints I may praise you
For ever and ever. Amen.”

Y mándame ir a Tí
Para que con Tus santos Te alabe
Por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.”
